Once you've made the cake and it tastes good, then it's time to decorate it. The icing is the branding. Your logo is the birthday candle. With this perspective, it's honestly one of the last things you need worry about when building your business. A cool website is not that important either. Fonts? Colors? Forget about them. Make the cake first.
There are so many possible factors that go into building a successful platform for your business. I've put together a short list for you:
Finding your community.
Refining your voice.
Building relevant and thoughtful offers
Knowing how to communicate the worth of those offers
Using the right keywords, learning how to talk about what you know.
Building connections both online and offline.
The cultural relevancy of the work you are creating.
Branding can best be defined as relationship management. While marketing focuses on reaching out to new people, branding strengthens the connections with those who are already present. It’s an art form of care that in its purest, simplest state manifests as an ecosystem people feel excitement and joy engaging in. This is achieved through powerful, insightful leadership, relevant, relatable, cohesive messaging, well organized offerings that reach various types of people and price points… all built through consistent action, which over time leads to the holy grail of business: trust.
Without trust, there is no connection. A well connected, thriving community leads to an abundance of opportunities, transformation, and resources.
Where the magic of branding comes in is when you are ready to step into the next level of leadership. It’s a vehicle to actualize your dream potential, whoever it is that you desire to become.
Branding is not essential but it will make your job of selling your cake A LOT easier. A well crafted brand says everything you need to say when your not in the room. It's your reputation and if done right, it will do the selling for you.
