How good is your logo?

Every detail counts when constructing a brand identity, and the more aware you are of them, the more memorable the experience of your business will be in the eyes of your consumers.

Judging the quality of your brand’s art is a tricky experience but there are markers along the way that let you know whether or not your designer hit the mark.

  1. Emotional response: This is the easiest marker to observe as it is the most profound. There are people in your life that care about you and are deeply invested in the story of your business. Are they tearing up when they look at the work? Are they breathless? Is the magical moment of awe present in their faces? At the end of the day, any professional branding effort that you do is for them, and to attract more people that will resonate at their level.

  2. Intellectual response: Are your people “nerding out” about your new logo? Do they see the intricacies? Are they impacted by the storytelling elements? Does the way that curve intersects with that perpendicular line in just the right shade and texture tickle the part of their brain that can’t get enough of how good it looks? You’ll be surprised how far this response can go for brand loyalty. Some people really love a good visual “trick” (myself included).

  3. Physical response: Are people so enamored by the work that they want the art in their physical spaces? Are they using your branded merch — the mugs, tote bags, pins, stickers… etc. ?

Your logo is an image that represents your brand, it is the essence of what you are wanting to accomplish, the imprint you wish to leave on the collective.

So ask yourself this question: would you tattoo your own logo?

Even if you don’t like tattoos, entertain the idea of literally branding yourself with your own brand. Would you do it? If the answer is a no, you aren’t there yet.

If you would, and it’s a full body YES, then congratulations. You have sufficiently invested in your brand’s identity. The memory of your brand is imprinted not just in your mind but in all of the people who has contributed their energy to the success of your work.

From a more spiritual perspective, you have created and properly clarified the spirit or soul of your business and other people can tap into its energy and receive blessings from it.

I have experienced all three of these responses from my clients and their communities many times over. At least 10 people that I know of have permanently tattooed my art on their bodies, though I do not have documentation of the fact. It is difficult to quantify the value and effects of this work but the fact that other people see its worth enough to carry it permanently on their skin with them is confirmation enough.

The most recent Jegayo tattoo experience is Chelsea Gay, who tattooed the Cleocatra logo I designed for her and an image of the Egyptian goddess Isis on her left shoulder. Truly an honor!

Branding is about relationship building, solidifying bonds within your community, you clients, customers, and self. Any act that you do that actively gives and supports those that sustain you is a form of branding, as they are experiencing and furthering the story of your business.

Why does any of this matter?

Because the undeniable truth is… brands with stories sell.

Effective storytelling that connects to the heart of your people is the fuel that lifts your business’s engine to new heights.
