Know Your Worth

To know your worth is how you protect the resources you have available as a limited being.
A thousand people can tell you how worthy you are but it’s not until you begin to feel it deep within yourself that the reality of it will take root.
In many ways, the relationships we have with our own bodies mirror the relationships we have with the Earth itself. Keep pulling a string on the web of life and watch how the whole structure unravels. Pay attention to where you siphon your own resources without taking the time to replenish them. You are a microcosm of the macrocosm; meaning, how you treat one aspect of your life will invariably bleed into all parts.
If you struggle with affirming your self-worth, start paying attention to all of the many moments throughout the day where you cheat yourself from the opportunity to replenish your reserves.
Rest: Are you actually, fully resting? By resting, what I mean is no technology, no to do list, just you, yourself, and the sunshine/moonlight.
Nourishment: How do you view the ritual of feeding yourself? This is a rich moment of reverence where you can honor vessel and fully be with yourself. Are you rushing yourself? Do you deny your body the fuel and food it needs to recharge? Or do you mindlessly overindulge?
Quality of Life: How do you see the space where you live? Your home is your sanctuary, and will reflect your internal habits. Each object accumulated tells a story. What conversation is your space maintaining?
Relationships: Do the people close to you reaffirm or reject the progress you’re making? Do they celebrate you? Or do they find ways to “put you in your place”?
Money: What is your experience with money? Is it lacking, never enough, like trying to catch sand slipping through your fingers? Is it dense and heavy, full of pain and weight? Are you so afraid of running out of it that you avoid managing it at all costs? This is not about how much money you have but about your interactions, beliefs, and feelings around it.
With patience and consistent attention, you can begin to shift these different parts of your life towards more fruitful and positive experiences.
To actively work on restoring your innate sense of worth and value, what you radiate impacts infinite facets of your life. This is what spiritual healing actually means. By restoring your connection to your body, and fully landing in the present moment, you are repairing your relationship to the Earth and her resources.
Unfortunately for the artists, the quality of the work you produce does not run parallel with your self-development. Dedicated time needs to be set aside. It’s easy to get caught up in the immediate external feedback your profession gives you and completely bypass the steps necessary to build a stable and nourished inner life.
I had the pleasure this weekend to sit in a free lecture by Karen Curry Parker, the founder of Quantum Human Design, generously hosted by Human Design Houston. Her presentation and the exercises she gave were absolutely brilliant. What struck me the most were her 9 Resiliency Keys, which is where I got the inspiration to write this article.
The nine keys are:
Self-worth
Lovability
Authenticity
Self-trust
Emotional wisdom
Empowerment
Decisiveness
Courage
Vitality
Each of these were arranged in a pyramid with self-worth and lovability at the base, symbolizing the foundation for all of these other qualities to develop within us — the peak of the pyramid being vitality.
We were asked to honestly rate the strength of our keys on a scale of 1-10 — 1 being abysmal/nonexistent and 10 being I’m so amazing I should be president.
Then she brought in epigenetics.
There’s scientific evidence that shows we carry the genetic information of up to 30 past generations within our bodies.
Think about how your ancestors are still living through you. These 30 generations of accumulated habits, beliefs, prejudices, fears impact your body, health, personality, and outlook on life.
